The aim of this report is to examine the characteristics of the Cifre programme and those of its participants, and to conduct an evaluation of the programme’s impact on participating firms and PhD students. Under a Cifre agreement, the State provides financial support to any socio-economic organisation based in France that recruits a PhD student to carry out a research project which will form the subject of their thesis, for a maximum period of three years. The PhD is devoted entirely to the research project, with responsibilities and time divided between the employer and the academic laboratory.
