This project aims to assess whether discrimination exists in access to healthcare for beneficiaries of the Complémentaire santé solidaire (CSS) and the Aide médicale de l’État (AME) when requesting a non-urgent medical appointment with practitioners in three specialities: general practitioners, ophthalmologists and paediatricians.

Discrimination is assessed on the basis of the likelihood of securing an appointment, as well as the time taken between the initial call and the date of the proposed appointment. An attempt was made to call each practitioner in the sample by three patients (an AME beneficiary, a CSS beneficiary and a patient without either CSS or AME, known as a ‘reference’ patient) of the same gender.

Method and Data

This study uses the testing method, commonly applied to measure discrimination in recruitment, in the context of making an appointment by telephone.
