This project aims to collect as much macroeconomic data as possible relating to financial activities for each European country, in order to estimate the output and the overall cost of using financial services. The compilation of this data to construct an indicator of the unit cost of financial intermediation in Europe will be based on a theoretical model underpinning the various calculation assumptions. The aim is to construct a consistent time series covering a large part of the European continent for the post-war period and, to a more limited extent, for the 20th century.
