Passing of YingHua He

We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of YingHua He on 2 July, following a long illness. After defending his thesis at Columbia University, YingHua joined the Toulouse School of Economics as Assistant Professor from 2010 to 2016. He then moved to Rice University in Texas, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in (with tenure) in 2022.

YingHua was a leading expert in the empirical analysis of matching markets and has collaborated extensively with researchers at PSE and TSE during his frequent visits to France.

Since 2021, he has been affiliated with the Institute for Public Policy, working with Gabrielle Fack and Julien Grenet on the Affelnet school choice procedure in Paris, and with Julien Combe and Olivier Tercieux on the kidney paired donation program in France. YingHua was not only a brilliant and innovative researcher, but also a colleague and friend of rare kindness and generosity.

He loved France, its culture and its way of life, making regular trips to Paris and Toulouse to collaborate with his many French co-authors. His passing is a profound loss to our community, yet he leaves us with cherished memories. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
