The research project ‘Care for older people experiencing a loss of independence: assessing local needs’ aims to improve the measurement of care needs among older people experiencing a loss of independence.
It builds on the IPP project ‘Trajectories of older people experiencing a loss of independence and departmental disparities in care provision’, funded by the CNSA, and on the work carried out by the Drees on localised potential accessibility indicators (APL) at local authority level, which aims to measure geographical accessibility to residential care homes and home-help services for older people, whilst transcending the administrative boundaries between local authorities or departments. Our understanding of access to formal care for dependent older people remains incomplete, particularly because a wide range of professionals provide support and care to older people and do not fall under the same organisational structures or sectors of activity.
