We will not truly know how and to what extent the various social groups will be affected by the pension reform until the government has published the impact assessment; it is to be hoped that the simulations presented will be sufficiently detailed to answer this question. However, the clarifications provided by the Prime Minister on 10 January already enable us to offer some initial insights into this major and complex issue. In particular, it is possible to compare the intuitions and arguments fuelling the public debate with what we ‘know’ – with all the necessary caveats – about the career trajectories of the various social groups.
