There are few studies in France that shed light on the impact of active labour market policies aimed at helping those furthest from the labour market to return to work, although empirical evidence suggests that such policies are more effective for those furthest from the labour market (Card et al. 2017). Furthermore, the support provided throughout these pathways appears to have significant shortcomings in terms of aligning career plans with the training undertaken: the evaluation report on the ‘500,000’ plan (DARES 2017) highlights that some of the jobseekers who received training under this scheme considered it to be irrelevant because the training programme had not been sufficiently thought through.
