Since 1 March 2020, all French private-sector firms with more than 50 employees have been required to calculate and publish a professional equality index (see IPP Policy Brief No. 52 on this subject). The indicator to which the calculation assigns the greatest weight is the conditional pay gap, which accounts for 40 of the index’s total 100 points. As the methodology for calculating this indicator is crucial, it is important to fully understand what it entails. Certain methodological aspects do indeed raise questions.
