Context

The aim of this project is to analyse family and spousal entitlements under the pension system and to simulate different reform options for these schemes using the PENSIPP microsimulation model.

Presentation

Family and spousal entitlements form an important part of the pension system, both in terms of the amounts involved and their potential redistributive effects, particularly in favour of women. However, these schemes are currently criticised for their lack of transparency and their failure to effectively meet the objectives for which they were originally designed. This project aims to provide a quantified assessment of their costs and effects before proposing several avenues for reform to ensure a better alignment between the measures and their ultimate objectives.
